Our Mission Statement

The City of Hillsboro, North Dakota, will maximize opportunities for social and economic development while retaining an attractive, sustainable and secure environment for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. Through responsible and professional leadership and partnership with others and organizations. The City and its employees will strive to improve the quality of life for all residents living and working in the community of Hillsboro. 

 

 

 Hillsboro is a growing community, with a small town feel, in eastern North Dakota with a population of 1,624.  It is located between Fargo and Grand Forks on US Interstate 29 at exit #104.

 

  • Local agriculture is the primary business sector in this area with ongoing expansions into healthcare, technology and future entrepreneur endeavors.  Residents can enjoy numerous health and wellness activities- outdoor pool, golf course, city park and fitness center. Sanford Medical Center provides a local full service clinic to urgent care along with assisted living/ nursing home capabilities.  
  • Riverwalk Development is a new master plan community that will be located on the west side of Interstate 29.  With plans for walking trails and parks this new neighborhood will encourage an active and healthy lifestyle that will include residential and commercial building opportunities.
  •  Hillsboro was originally founded in 1880 under the name of Comstock and was renamed after the railroad baron James J. Hill and remains the county seat, where you will find the County Court House and Sheriff's Department.  Hillsboro is also known for having the oldest weekly newspaper in the state, the Hillsboro Banner which commenced in February, 1880. 
  •  Things to see and do in Hillsboro include visiting our Pioneer Museum, Plummer House- built in 1897 and completely restored, Woodland Park and visiting the businesses in our downtown corridor.
